Fish Oil for Arthritis: Is it effective?
When somebody hears for the first time that fish oil for arthritis is very effective, he or she might be surprised. After all, what is widely known about fish oil is that it is good for our heart and our brain. What is little known, however, is that fish oil is equally effective at providing inflammation related pain relief for all those millions around the world who suffer from arthritis.
One of the top reasons that fish oil has gained popularity as an effective remedy for arthritis is the negative publicity that some of the mainstream prescription pain killers COX-2 inhibitors have received the recent few years, associated with incidents of death.
Numerous consumer reports and actual testimonials of people suffering from this degenerative disease, support the medical finding that fish oil for arthritis indeed does work through its anti-inflammatory properties.
This is especially true for people suffering with mild to medium severity symptoms. For acute case, a patient has to complement its remedy with additional medication.
Scientific data about the link of fish oil and arthritis abounds.
For example, in a clinical study conducted by the School of Medicine in New Zealand, three different groups of patients suffering from medium symptoms of arthritis were given three medications (each group was different): Fish oil rich in DHA (the most important of the essential fatty acids), normal fish oil with low concentration in DHA and aspirin.
At the end of the test, the finding was startling: The fish oil that was rich in DHA was nearly as potent as aspirin in fighting inflammation associated with arthritis and twice as potent when compared with the "normal" fish oil.
And, listen to this: Fish oil anti-inflammatory properties are not just restricted to arthritis. Scientists have discovered that inflammation is more often than not the underlying cause for many serious diseases such as cancer or cardiovascular disease. It has been described as "the silent killer".
So, taking fish oil for arthritis will not only help relieve your pain, but also improve your overall health and quality of life.
